Type of Program  Hospital-based program

Mission The mission of the Weight Management and Wellness Center is to help children in our region achieve and maintain a healthy weight and to prevent, identify and treat weight related problems such as diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol.

Description  Program emphasizes “Healthy Behaviors for Life.” The general approach involves identifying behaviors that have contributed to obesity, and then negotiating an agreement with families to change these behaviors over a period of time. The behavior change process is incremental. We avoid diets or weight loss targets. Our philosophy is that if behavior changes, weight will take care of itself. We also care for a substantial number of children annually (approximately 1500) in a standard, hospital-based clinic model. Many other programs care for far fewer children.
